At our AGM, Tuesday, September 15, 2009, Alderman Fox-Mellway arranged to have the applicant present his proposal to have this property re-zoned to allow for high rise high density development and answer questions.  The site we are referring to is the vacant land between the LRT parking structure and the Agrium office building.

The applicant/owner, Mr. Linder Armitage of Southgate Chev/Olds told those in attendance that he had owned the land for many years, and that in July 2004 he had been successful in upgrading the original land use for increased height and density.  However in attempting to sell the property he could not get his asking price.

As a result of not being able to sell the land for what he thought it was worth, he decided to submit another application to the City in to increase the height and density again to further increase the value of the property.

Mr. Armitage stated he had no intentions of developing the site and when asked what would be built there and how could it be compatible with the surrounding community, he stated he did not know but that he only wanted to get the land use upgraded with increased height and density so he could get the increased value and sell it.

Alderman Linda Fox-Mellway has put together the following history of the site: Attached full article; Lake Fraser Drive High Density.pdf (65.60 kb)
