Notice to all Shawnee-Evergreen Residents

April 13, 2010 16:01 by Norm Rousseau

This is a reminder that SECA is holding a Town Hall meeting tomorrow, April 14, to provide you with an update on the golf course rezoning issue and to gather your feedback about the developer's plans.

Alderman Diane Colley Urquhart and Wilf Richter with City Administration (Planning Department) will attend to answer your questions regarding the City's process going forward. The media has been invited to attend as well.

The Town Hall meeting takes place at the Peace Lutheran Church behind the Highbury, at 14640 6 St. SW. It starts at 7:00 pm. We hope you are able to attend.

SECA has not yet received the "official" rezoning application for comment. However, we received some information from the City, which we have posted online. It's similar to what you will see at the developer's open house, which continues today and tomorrow from 3:00 to 8:00. Please note that key pieces of data, such as the traffic study, are not yet available.

Visit the SECA website at www.shawnee-evergreen.net and scroll down to find the entry dated April 8, 2010. Note that some of these “pdf” files may take a considerable length of time to open so you may have to be VERY patient. If you still have difficulty opening the files, send us a note and we'll send them to you via email.

P.S. If you are on Diane Colley Urquhart’s distribution list, you will have received an email last evening stating: “The Applicant had committed to City Administration to circulate 500 copies of the application to all affected stakeholders last month, but failed to do so.  Following notice given by City Administration, these copies were received and distributed late last week.” Unfortunately Diane’s office had been misinformed. The City department responsible for distribution of the “package” has not yet received the material! We now understand that it should be available sometime around April 16th to 20th (but don’t hold your breath).

NOTICE to Shawnee-Evergreen Residents

April 7, 2010 18:31 by Gloria Dingwall

We encourage you to attend and see what the developer has planned. We have heard that Geo Energy's plans now entail an even higher density development. We were originally led to believe their target was 1,100 homes but now understand that it has been increased to 1,600 homes.

Is this a done deal? No, not at all. Geo Energy has to get approval from the City to rezone the land before they can begin development. They are required by the City of Calgary to consult with the community, which is the purpose of the open house. Whether they take our views into consideration remains to be seen. However, concerns raised at the community information session on January 22, 2009 appear to have been ignored.

To date, they have not submitted completed application forms, but we expect that will happen next week. And when they do, we will fight it, as planned. Our position has not changed. There are many areas appropriate for development, but not the land currently designated as a golf course.

We encourage you to go to the open house and see what's planned. Then tell Geo Energy exactly what you think about their plans to replace mature green space with high density housing. Tell them how you feel about fighting horrendous traffic just to get in and out of your community. Tell them how this will affect your quality of life.

You live here. They don't. Your views count, so express them.
