The City of Calgary is creating storm water settling ponds in communities bordering Fish Creek. Deep pipes will collect storm water and snowmelt and transport it to Fish Creek Park where the sediment will settle in ponds, purifying the water before it joins the natural water system.
One of the six ponds – the Marshall Springs Retrofit Pond – will affect our community. Some type of diversion structure will be constructed on Evergreen Drive SW and an underground storm water pipe will carry the water through the community to Fish Creek Park, where it the sediment will settle. This will entail some construction, particularly in Evergreen Estates, over the next two years. Please see the attached drawings for details.
The City of Calgary’s Water Resources division is hosting an information session for residents on Tuesday, June 24th at the Peace Lutheran Church, 14640 Sixth St. S.W., from 5 to 8 p.m. They will further explain the purpose of the project and the possible impact of construction. They’ll advertise the session through letters to Evergreen Estates residents, bold signs and ads in the Herald and the Sun. We’ll also keep you updated on our community website: www.shawnee-evergreen.net
